About Mission Neighborhood Centers
We have been meeting the changing needs of low-income residents of the Mission District for over 40 years.
Our goal is to empower children, youth, families and the elderly by offering quality programs and services that meet their needs and promote self-sufficiency.
- We assist families, large and small, with services and programs that help them in their daily lives.
- We help the newly arrived who do not speak English make their transition to a productive new life.
Mission Neighborhood Centers (MNC), Inc., operating budget is more than $8 million, and we are one of the largest non-profit employers in the Mission District. Our caring and experienced direct service personnel are proud members ofUAW/AFL-CIO Local 2103. Many are bilingual and bicultural reflecting the diversity of our neighborhood.
MNC has adopted the philosophy of empowering our local neighbors and Head Start families by providing an opportunity to develop their multi-cultural AND bilingual skills through employment and training at our Head Start and Full Day Care sites. Over one-third of the Head Start program's work force originally was introduced to MNC as Head Start parents participating in the program.
Our Board of Directors, committed to the stability and quality of our organization, includes community members, business leaders, clients and advocates. They set policy and priorities for the corporation. An administrative staff consisting of an Executive Director, Associate Director, Accountant, Program Directors and 85 other direct service staff implement board directives.
MNC wholly owns and operates four of its centers: Capp Street Center, Precita Valley Community Center, 24th Street Family Center, and 1330 Stevenson Street. In addition it leases other facilities for the Head Start program, at the Women’s Building, Bernal Dwellings Housing Complex, Coleman Advocates on Vienna St. (Excelsior District), Mission Bay, Valencia Gardens and Valencia Center. MNC will soon open one more site at 1337 Evans Street, in the Bay View Hunter’s Point district.
