http://www.ljye.com

Jazz Ensemble

The Latin Jazz Youth Ensemble of San Francisco, or LJYE, is a performing group of talented musicians ages ten to 18. Their repertoire features Latin jazz classics and original compositions at a level that has landed them gigs at the San Jose Jazz Festival, the KCSM Jazz Festival, KGO Radio, Yerba Buena Gardens, SF Museum of Modern Art, Paramount's Great America and the world-renown jazz club, Yoshi’s. The LJYE has shared the stage with legendary performers such as the great Cuban bassist, Cachao; piano virtuoso Chuchito Valdes; Latin jazz heavyweights Poncho Sanchez and Clare Fischer; and the Grammy Award-winning Spanish Harlem Orchestra. The LJYE mission is to preserve the traditions of Latin jazz and Afro-Cuban music by teaching it to youth and to create role models for aspiring student musicians. The LJYE was chosen as one of the top youth bands in Northern California in the 2004 YouthQuake competition and won First Place (Youth Music) in Carnaval San Francisco in 2002, 2004, 2005 and 2006. The Ensemble is honored to be Youth Artists-in-Residence at San Francisco's Yerba Buena Gardens Festival since 2005.

Berta Olivia con Mariachi Mexicanisimo

Berta Berta

Berta Olivia. Born in Tijuana, Mexico, Berta Olivia is a true Mariachl vocalist. Musica Marachi has become such an endearing part of her life, she credits such female mariachi pioneers as Lola Beltran, Lucha Villa, Chelo, Aida Cuevas, RocioDurcal and Yolanda Del Rio as her influences. With her strong vocals and strong repertoire in Mariachi music, she has become a Northern California favorite with both English and Spanish audiences. Bottom line, this “cachanilla’ can really sing! Her performances are both passionate and engaging as she is able to take the listener through a melodic revisit into the Mexican romance period. Whether she is pounding out a “grito” or tinkling away at a bolero or balada, she is Mariachi, and yet she’s Ranchera with a dab of Cumbia added for good measure. Along the way, she has been compared to many of her own female idols. “I am both humbled and honored”, “Mariachi is all I ever wanted to do; I really have no plan B”. “It was no choice, really, actually, it chose me”.

Mariachi Mexicanisimo

Mariachi

One of the most elite and well respected Mariachi's of Northern California. They have performed with some of the most recognized names in the industry of Musica Mariachi including, but, not limited to, Pepe Aguilar, Marco Anotnio Solis, Aida Cuevas, Pedrito Fernandez, Yolanda Del Rio, Beatriz Adrianna and of course, Berta Olivia. They have played at both the distingushed International Mariachi Festival in San Jose and Mariachi USA at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles.
