MNC Youth Inspired During College Tour!

Holiday Volunteers Bring Smiles, Toys, and Tamales to MNC
During the recent holiday season, volunteers from three different corporations chose MNC for their community service projects. The volunteers shared laughter, provided toys, and made tamales - bringing smiles to our children and senior clients!

Employees of Constellation Wines US spent an afternoon volunteering in the Capp Street Head Start classrooms. After playing with and reading to the children, they made holiday art and holiday cards to display in their classrooms or take home. The children and their teachers were so happy to have had these visitors; they made a book of thank you cards and drawings. View the Constellation Thank You cards.

IN THE SPOTLIGHT

Maria LuisaMaria Luisa Molina is a 76-year-old Guatemalan senior who immigrated to the United States in 1961. When she retired from work in 1995, she was alone and did not have friends to visit or to spend time with.

Not knowing what to do, Maria Luisa used to go to McDonald’s every morning, order something to eat and a cup of coffee, sit by the window and stay there until lunch time just watching people go by. She felt very lonely and lost.

One rainy day, as she sat by the window, a lady ran into the establishment to shield from the rain and started talking to Maria Luisa. While she waited for the rain to ease down, this stranger told her she was on her way to a senior center that was a few blocks away. She invited her to come along and try the lunch offered at the center. She insisted and said, “You will not regret it”. Maria Luisa decided to go with her new friend and have lunch at Mission Neighborhood Centers, 362 Capp Street facility. Maria Luisa felt at home immediately.
