Early Care & Education
MNC Inspiring Success
We value our role in preparing infants, toddlers and preschool aged children for educational success throughout their lives. Our quality early care and education is done thru heartfelt services provided our children and their families. We offer services to our diverse community and these include comprehensive dual-language English and Spanish services with full-day, full-year care options available.

Head Start
One of our key funders is Head Start, a national program that promotes school readiness by enhancing the social and cognitive development of
children through the education, health, nutrition, disabilities support, parent engagement and other services to enrolled children and their families.

MNC was a delegate agency from 1969 to 2014. In spring of 2014 MNC became a Grantee and was awarded funding for Head Start/Early Head Start to provide comprehensive early care and education services. MNC’s 10 campuses are in Mission, Excelsior, Bayview Hunter’s Point, and Mission Bay neighborhoods. At this time our Head Start and Early Head Start services benefit 280 preschool children ages 3 – 5 and 82 infants and toddlers.

Our Philosophy
Our MNC team members who are teachers, support staff and family service workers, provide nurturing and caring learning environments that consider the values, home languages, and cultural identities of the children and families served. Team members engage children in age-appropriate, stimulating experiences to bring about optimal learning in order for them to grow happily to their fullest potential. MNC is committed to ongoing conversation, dialogue and a customer service approach with families, and staff to develop confidence, winning outlooks and the needed skills to challenge bias and disrupt systemic inequities that have long been barriers in our society.
Special Enhancements
MNC preschool classrooms participate in the San Francisco Quality Connections program, which means that each classroom is evaluated by trained and certified independent assessors for quality, and we must meet minimum ratings on the Early Childhood Environmental Rating Scales (ECERS), the Classroom Assessment Scoring System (CLASS), as well as
other quality indicators.

In return for our participation, MNC classrooms receive curricular/instructional enhancements and program quality improvements, such as funding for a
partnership with Project Commotion, that incorporates tumbling, music, play, dance, and martial arts as a means of fostering healthy development, self-awareness and self-expression; teacher trainings and professional development opportunities; funding for enhanced program supplies and materials; plus other resources to benefit our children and families.

School Readiness
“School Readiness” is an important term we use to mean that being in our classrooms…

-
Children possess the skills, knowledge, and attitudes necessary for success in school and for later learning for a lifetime.
-
For parents and families, school readiness means they understand, and have the knowledge and confidence to be engaged in the long-term, lifelong success of their child. MNC believe parents are their children’s primary teachers and advocates. We proudly serve families this way.
Our school readiness objective is to achieve and promote educational goals through effective early childhood instruction. This lies at the heart of our
mission and commitment to all children and families we serve.
